The Poker Episode of Friends – Plot and Screenplay
This episode of Friends starts at Monika’s apartment, where all of the main characters are packing letters to help Rachel apply for as many jobs as possible. The scene ends with her saying that she doesn’t want to be a waiter for life, and that a change is needed.
In the next scene, you see her working at the Central Perk’s Café, where Monika and Phoebe read the replies from the job interviews. Meanwhile, Ross and Chandler sit aside and speak secretly about Ross’s feelings about Rachel. Then Joey came in, and they all gather around the table.
Then, the guys explained about their poker night last night and how Joey lost some money to Ross. Shortly after, the girls suggested they play together, even though none knew the rules. The next scene brings you to their first poker game, where the girls are showing their cards and even exchanging some between them. This is the Friends episode where they play poker together.
At the end of the game, it became evident that Ross was the winner, and he basically won his friends’ money. On the following day, the girls contemplate how to beat the boys on their own game. Then Monika came with the plan to call her Aunt Iris to teach them how to play poker.
The real fun was when aunt Iris came to visit them. She taught them how to play and how to bluff on poker. The next scene is the second Friends poker night, where Ross again owned the game, but Monika became furious and said that this was not the end, and there will be a rematch sooner or later.
Several seconds later, the camera shows the next (final) game for this episode. Rachel had higher cards than Ross for the first time, and she made her first winning hand. Then, a telephone call came from one of Rachel’s job interviews. Sadly, but they told her that someone else was hired for the position she applied for.
She came back to the table, ready to bet. On the next hand, she was playing aggressively, and she went all-in and even asked for more money from Monika so that she could raise again. This is the moment when you see how deep into Rachel Ross really is because he pretended to have a lower hand than hers so that she could win and be happy.
